KNOWING IS THE NATURE OF YOUR BEING

Updated: 8 hours ago

Within each of us dwells the intelligence which is the source of all life and intrinsically all knowing. I personally refer to it as the 'being' aspect of human beings. The being is essentially the life energy that we carry. It is the light of consciousness that observes creation in its most basic quantity (or quantum properties). The being’s very essence is pure presence — it is the constant of present moment that dwells within each of us, and from which we draw all sense of ‘knowing’. Our inner-being is constantly aware of the fundamental realities underlying the object and subject of its attention because it experiences creation simultaneously both as itself and as part of itself.

In its constant unity with the present moment and by virtue of its awareness, the being knows all that is ever to be known about any subject in the universe. The knowing of the being manifests outwardly as the intelligence at play that’s forever orchestrating the continuous unfolding of the life process. To the human eyes, this subtle intelligence is perceived as that which we call ‘common sensethe basic awareness and ability to judge that most organisms share naturally, even if they cannot explain why. As such, true intelligence could be seen as a natural result of the ‘knowing’ that is shared among all living beings in the universe. This intelligence (common sense) is intrinsically found in animals, insects, plants etc., and it is permeating the whole of existence in fact. It is the knowing that gives ants the intelligence to organise themselves systemically, or recognises the potential of a seed to become a tree, subsequently knowing how to make it so that the seed eventually grows to become a tree!

"There is nothing new under the sun"

Tuning to our inner-being naturally opens us up to the wisdom and intelligence of existence in its wholeness, which in a sense makes us all-knowing also. That is not to say that we suddenly have direct knowledge of everything that exists within our conscious mind, but by connecting to our being, we have direct access to the knowing and intelligence of existence from within ourselves. Everything that our inner-being knows about any given aspect of reality is also available for us to know. It is just a matter of tuning to the frequency and becoming receptive enough to let its intelligence find conscious expression in our everyday experiences. Our very own intuition is, in fact, a common medium through which the knowing of the being is accessed.

Knowing is experiential in nature

Far from wanting to subscribe to empirical ideologies, I do however agree with the notion that true knowledge (or knowing) can only stem from a direct experience or experiment with a given aspect of reality, rather than information or theory alone. As such, informative knowledge cannot be considered as knowing if one has no personal experience (experiment) of his/her own to relate to the said information in the first place. Science may explain the process of digestion as it occurs inside your stomach, and you may carry that information in your mind. However, the truth is that you don't really 'know' whether that information is true or factual, until you've had a personal experience/experiment with said process. If you've never experienced digestion as it was described to you by science, everything you know about it theoretically is just information and information is always subject to change while an experience is not. Similarly, you may know facts about Ireland, but if you have never been to Ireland and experienced the weather, can you really say that you 'know' anything about Ireland?

Knowing isn't a function of the mind

Understanding the true nature of knowing makes us realise that we cannot know much of anything solely from the mind because knowing isn't a function of the mind alone. Although the mind uses the being's intelligence to conceptualise and give meaning to reality, it does not in fact know its true nature of reality because it cannot perceive life in its absolute totality. The mind's understanding of reality is only based on the depth of information that it has been able to gather and the meaning that they seemingly convey. The being is the only part of us that knows the true nature of reality at any given time for the simple fact that it is forever focused on the present moment, and it is 'knowing' in and of itself.

We all have a part of ourselves that thinks, imagines and talks about reality (the mind). Then there is this other part of us that experiences all of these realities without requiring thought, reasoning, or intellect but by simply 'being' in the present moment. Our inner-being does not have to think about what it's doing, nor does it hesitate or question its actions, yet it gets everything done with utmost precision simply because it 'knows'. The good news is that you have the same intelligence within you, therefore, you too can tap into the knowing of your being at will. Whatever it is that you'd like to do or accomplish with purity of intention, is already within your power... don't overthink it, Just Do It!

So are we all divine in a sense?

This is a question many of us find ourselves pondering as we begin to experience the knowing nature of our being. We think, well, if my truest self is indeed all-knowing and one with existence itself, does that mean that I am god-like in a sense? To that, I would say yes and no, as I find the answer to be rather paradoxical. Though we are not Gods in the literal sense of the word, we are God in the sense that we carry the seed of the universe within us at all times. We are essentially made of God’s stuff, thus, experiencing life both as the sea (the creator) and its individual waves (the creation) at the same time. When we live in absolute unity with all there is, we become divine and so does everything. Conversely, when we live as if separated from the whole (in our individuality), we are mere human beings, and therefore, bound to the confines of our human nature.

The idea here is to eventually find balance in our duality by delighting in the pleasures of experiencing life as single entities or 'individuals', while also remaining fully aware of the oneness that we truly are and carry by essence. This way, the very source of life will serve as our internal compass and all-knowing guide, while our self-intelligence (self-consciousness) provides us with the basis for experiencing life from a unique perspective and focus of attention.
